Association for Fire Ecology Section Establishment

Proposed Sections shall base their organization on the AFE bylaws – revisions to the bylaws may be made but such changes should reflect the spirit of the existing bylaws that underlie the legal standing of AFE.
  • Sections will be assisted in this process by the AFE Section Establishment Committee

  • Sections shall be proposed to the AFE Board of Directors for approval

  • Sections shall become active on approval by majority vote of the AFE Board of Directors

  • Some of the key provisions in the AFE bylaws that must be incorporated into the bylaws of each Section are:

A Board of Directors - between 6 & 12 directors (AFE bylaws) are elected by the membership - the board shall meet as frequently as necessary (AFE holds monthly board telephone conferences) - initially, 6 board members should suffice

Section officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer - they are elected by the Board of Directors (AFE bylaws) - Sections shall also identify a Section Representative to the AFE Board

Sections shall establish Committees (e.g., membership, annual meetings) to conduct appropriate business - such committees are advisory to the board and shall include one board member as well as other members from the membership-at-large

Sections shall hold a yearly membership meeting to conduct business of interest to the membership and to summarize the activities of the board throughout the year

Dues sufficient for operations shall be set and collected - AFE can collect Section dues along with its own dues

Membership requirements - members only need to have an interest in fire ecology

Members of Sections shall also be members of the parent AFE
