The mission of AFESE is to foster excellence in fire ecology and fire management among fire ecology professionals in the Southeastern U.S. through science and education. Inaugurated at the Tall Timbers Fire Ecology Conference in January of 2009, AFESE membership is comprised of agency, higher education, non-governmental, and private persons dedicated to perpetuating the informed, science-based use and management of fire in the Southeastern US.
